GANDHI JAYANTHI:As the Nation marks yet another Gandhi Jayanthi on October 2nd we are once again reminded of Non-Violence by Manmohan Singh in New Delhi and Sonia Gandhi in New York. The misplaced emphasis on Non-Violence every October 2nd speaks volumes about how our leaders and the country at large have poorly understood Gandhi. The ‘Ahimsa Divas Yatra’ flagged off by the Prime Minister at the AICC headquarters in the Capital to mark the 138th birth anniversary of the Mahatma is a classic case of worshipping the “means” while remaining ignorant of the end goal. While attempting to evolve a Gandhian Doctrine in response to Terrorism, last July after the 7-11 Mumbai Blasts Offstumped had occasion to understand Gandhi’s thought process in choosing the path of Non-Violence.

MY IDEAL PERSON:
My ideal person is my grandmother,my mother's mother. She was a teacher for 30 years. She taught history and geography.I met a lot of people, who were her students, and they all had a good opinion of her.I can also experience, that she is a good teacher,'cause sometimes she gives me private lessons. She brought up 5 children,in spite of her husband died very early. She is now 67 years old,but she is very young and fit.She does every day gymnastic.Every year on the big family fests, all her children and her grandchildren visit her,so she has to cook for more than 10 people.Of course we help her-for example with the washing up-but I think it is a good performance from her.I think it is also not generally ,that she can understand our problems, and we can chat with her about all the things, that we're interested in.

Lal Bahadur was born in the year 1904 in Mughalsarai, Uttar Pradesh as Lal Bahadur Srivastava. His father Sharada Prasad was a poor school teacher, who later became a clerk in the Revenue Office at Allahabad[1]. When Lal Bahadur was three months old, he slipped out of his mother's arms into a cowherd's basket at the ghats of the Ganges. The cowherd, who had no children, took the child as a gift from God and took him home. Lal Bahadur's parents lodged a complaint with the police, who traced the child, and returned him to his parents

Raksha Bandhan (the bond of protection in Hindi) is a Hindu festival, which celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters. It is celebrated on the full moon of the month of Shraavana.
The festival is marked by the tying of a rakhi, or holy thread by the sister on the wrist of her brother. The brother in return offers a gift to his sister and vows to look after her. The brother and sister traditionally feed each other sweets. It is not necessary that the rakhi can be given only to a brother by birth; any male can be "adopted" as a brother by tying a rakhi on the person, that is "blood brothers and sisters", whether they are cousins or a good friend.

Diwali, or Deepawali, (also called Tihar and Swanti in Nepal) (Markiscarali) is a major Indian and Nepalese festive holiday, and a significant festival in Hinduism, Sikhism and Jainism which was refounded by Lord Mahavira in India.[citation needed] Many legends are associated with Diwali. Today it is celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs across the globe as the "Festival of Light," where the lights or lamps signify victory of good over the evil within every human being. The festival is also celebrated by Buddhists of Nepal, particularly the Newar Buddhists.

If we continue to use them, they may be useful ti us for many more years. If we examine them carefully ; we may find that some of the old things are far better than new ones.Similarly some of our old customs are better than modern customs .Old things and and old customs are as valuableas gold. The proverb cautions that old things should not be discared as they are old. There are glimpses of truth in the old customs and beliefs.

PLANTS:Plants grow in our homes, schools, offices and in most of our other spaces too. We are so used to them that we rarely ask, 'Why are plants so important?' This is not an easy question to answer, because most of what we do everyday involves plants in one way or another. In fact, plants are the cause of animal life on Earth. At first, the Earth's atmosphere was full of poisonous gases
